ABOUT THE BALLET

La Sylphide is a romantic ballet that tells the story of a young Scottish man named James, who becomes infatuated with a beautiful and ethereal sylph, a woodland spirit. The ballet, which takes place in a gorgeous Scottish countryside, pits James’s longing for the ethereal sylph against his engagement to Effie, a mortal woman. As the narrative progresses, James is drawn away from his human life and his love for Effie and into the mysterious realm of the sylphs. The ballet culminates in a tragic and moving ending, exploring themes of fantasy, passion, and the otherworldly.
