Graduation Ball is a delightful one-act dance choreographed by David Lichine and set to the vibrant and lyrical music of Johann Strauss II. The ballet is set at a girls’ boarding school, where a group of students are preparing for their graduation ball. As the young women and their boyfriends anxiously attend the ball, the plot unfolds with a charming combination of humorous elements and energetic dance. However, comedy erupts as naughty and comedic circumstances, such as mistaken identities, flirtatious flirtations, and pairing mix-ups, create a lively and happy mood.

Johann Strauss II (1825-1899), frequently referred to as the “Waltz King,” was an Austrian composer whose music embodied the passion and beauty of Viennese waltz and operetta in the nineteenth century. He was born in Vienna into a musical family and went on to become a famous composer of dance music, operettas, and waltzes that caught the soul of the Romantic era. His songs, like as “The Blue Danube” and “Tales from the Vienna Woods,” have become iconic emblems of Viennese culture for their elegance, charm, and captivating melodies.
