Suite en Blanc (later renamed Noir et Blanc) is a ballet choreographed by Serge Lifar  set to music from Édouard Lalo’s ballet Namouna. The Paris Opera Ballet gave their debut performance in Zurich on June 19, 1943. Suite in Blanc was choreographed by The title character Namouna in “Valse de la Cigarette” has a sensual scene where she rolls a cigarette for her boyfriend.


Édouard Lalo was a well-known musician during the Romantic period of classical music, living from 1923 to 1892. His early musical aptitude as a violinist led to his enrollment at the Paris Conservatory, where he refined his composition and violin techniques. Lalo is well known for his Symphonie Espagnole, which was written in 1874. His compositions are praised for their rich imagery and emotional depth. This composition displays his virtuoso violin sections and deftly incorporates Spanish influences into its beautiful melodies. In addition to his instrumental works, Lalo made substantial contributions to the field of opera. “Le Roi d’Ys” is one of his best-known compositions and exemplifies his skill at skillfully fusing melody with drama.
