ABOUT THE BALLET

Sir Frederick Ashton choreographed the ballet Les Rendezvous, which the Sadler’s Wells (now the Royal Ballet) first performed in 1933. The choreography of this pleasant and vibrant ballet is characterised by its beautiful and exuberant movements, which perfectly reflect the essence of a joyous meeting or rendezvous. The ballet, which is set to a Daniel Auber composition, depicts a number of flirtatious interactions and passionate meetings amongst a group of young dancers in a lovely park.

ABOUT THE COMPOSER

Daniel-François-Esprit Auber (1782-1871) was a prominent French composer known for his contributions to the world of opera and ballet during the 19th century. Born in Caen, France, Auber showed an early aptitude for music and received his formal training at the Paris Conservatoire. He initially composed instrumental works, but his talent and passion led him to focus primarily on opera and ballet music.
