La Fille Mal Gardée is a delightful and comedic ballet that tells the story of a headstrong young woman, Lise, and her efforts to marry the man she loves, Colas, despite her overbearing mother, Widow Simone, who has a different suitor in mind for her. The ballet is set in a rustic village, and it unfolds as a charming romantic comedy. Lise and Colas devise clever plans to outwit Widow Simone and her chosen suitor, Alain, as they navigate the challenges and humorous situations that arise.

Johann Wilhelm Hertel (1727-1789) was a German composer and musician known for his significant contributions to the late Baroque and early Classical periods. Born in Eisenach, he hailed from a musical family, with his father and brother also being notable composers. Hertel was a versatile musician, skilled in playing the trumpet and the violin, but he primarily made his mark as a composer. His compositions included a wide range of works, from operas and symphonies to chamber music and concertos.
